CHAPTER 30

BONES

We fall into a routine, something I’m not used to. I’m not accustomed to someone waiting on me, eating every meal with me, or going to sleep with me, but I like it. I can’t seem to pull back and draw boundaries.

I spend every night in his arms and bed, and I let him take me to and from college, parties, and Silent Rose. I let him do everything he wants because seeing him happy does something to me. I did that. I made someone that happy by just being with them, and it warms my heart.

Others have started to notice. Someone in my class even told me today that I’m smiling more. I didn’t realize I was, but I guess it’s true. I think about him and smile like a crazy person.

I told him he didn’t need to pick me up today, since I had to stay late and study, but as soon as I’m home and changed, I head over to his apartment, opening his door with the spare key he gave me. Some of my presents remain unopened on his table. I’ve been opening one a day, but he doesn’t seem bothered. He drinks down my every reaction, and when I came out this morning wearing the shirt he bought me, I swear he screamed.

“Skylar?” I call when he doesn’t rush to greet me. I don’t hear him, and it’s quiet. Maybe he isn’t back yet.

I see his keys in the bowl, though, and panic fills me. It’s too quiet. Where is he?

My heart races as age-old terror lifts its head, the past and present colliding as I hurry through his apartment, calling his name.

I hurry through his bedroom, and a noise makes me rush to the closed bathroom door. Yanking it open, I freeze, my heart slamming as terror turns to annoyance.

He’s in the shower with his head tipped back, the water running over his incredible muscles. He hasn’t heard me yet, so I just stare and drink him in. I have the insane urge to join him. I shouldn’t, but . . .

Yanking my shirt over my head, I kick my jeans off and head his way, opening the door and stepping in behind him. His head turns, and he opens his eyes.

“Hey, baby,” he says so softly I shiver and press against his back as he kisses me.

“Hey, yourself,” I murmur, sliding my hands around him to link them together when I feel something on his side. Frowning, I turn him to see a bandage on his hip. “What happened?” I ask.

“Ah, nothing.” He cups my cheek and kisses me again. “I missed you.”

“It’s been like six hours.”

He grins. “I still missed you.”

“I missed you too,” I admit reluctantly. “Now what happened? This isn’t nothing.”

He tries to kiss me to distract me, so I lean back, making my glare brutal. “Skylar Warren, if you ever want me anywhere near your penis again, you will tell me.”

“Baby,” he whines then sighs. “There was an accident at work.
